Today, out of concern with Michael's saturation levels, he got a chest x-ray and nose scope, followed by a barium test, which revealed that his left vocal chord has collapsed. Unfortunately, this means that when he's had a tough time eating, the formula has been "going down the wrong pipe" and into his lungs, causing aspiration. The doctors hope that the vocal chord will repair itself within six to eight weeks.

In the meantime, a thickening agent will be added to his formula, forcing it to his stomach. Michael can only eat upright and then needs to stay that way for at least twenty minutes. He should, of course, love this since it means he'll spend 68 percent of his day being held.

They are also considering another catheterization if his saturation levels don't improve over the weekend. There is a chance that the Glenn could be narrowing or he could have pulmonary hypertension, but we will cross that bridge when it plops in front of us.

All that said, Michael bolsters the spirits of everyone around him with a flash of his smile or the tide of his innocent awe. His parents, running on overdrive, are remarkable in their ability to take care of and comfort little Mick through this.

Keep those thoughts and prayers coming.
