Well, we believe that part of the Mystery of Mick has been solved. The poor kid had not slept in days and was oozing discomfort. Today, one of the surgeons who performed Michael's Glenn arrived and was surprised that he was not weaned off of his morphine slowly. She believes that poor little Mick has been going through withdrawals because, after five days of heavy duty morphine, he went straight to Tylenol due to an unintentional cold-turkey approach. While this approach may be successful for some, to babies, it is a shock to their system that can remain for quiet some time. As a result, Michael has been put on a special drug that will be tapered down every six hours until he's "fix" free.
This course has already paid off. Michael slept for TWO straight hours and, it is hoped, will get a full night in tonight. Before his Super Nannie headed back to Buffalo, she got to see glimpses of the Michael we know, as he laughed and smiled for her. It was a gracious thank you for sleepless hospital nights and lots of love and attention.
Michael also got a visit from friends, Sherri and Ben. Sherri was able to facilitate Mick's monumental and celebratory FIRST SMILE since surgery.
We are hopeful that this could be an important part of the puzzle. His lung congestion is still a concern but is being monitored closely.
For now, here's to a really good night's sleep.
And some pics of the happier trooper:
