Well, after a rough 24 hours, Michael is back to doing great. His recovery is amazing.
The tissue cultures they took when they opened him up came back negative which is great news and hopefully means that all of the infection is gone. When they opened Michael's chest to remove the infection, the doctor's discovered that his sternum was not closed correctly. They were able to fix this by wiring the sternum closed, a lucky catch as it would have caused later complications.
The medical team has narrowed down the right amount of morphine to keep Mick on and he is recovering like a champ. His tenacity is uncanny.
Placed in his chest to help reduce swelling and infection, his drainage tube was removed today and his chest is now ready to heal (hopefully for a good while now). His voice is a little hoarse from the intubations, but given time, he'll be crying and cooing like a pro.
Michael had some quality time with his mom during the day. And this evening, Mick was wide awake for his daddy-time, staring intently and alert as ever. Below are some pictures, including Tommy giving Michael his first manicure.
Lots of love and appreciation. For everything.

What wonderful news about the Tiger. We have just watched the video and he is even more handsome when he moves! It is particularly touching when he is looking at his Dad and his Mom's comes around and gently pats his head. What a beautiful family you are. How blessed Michael is to have such loving and caring parents. You are also a gift to all of us. Please know that our love and prayers are with you.

You are all so amazing!
It was Nana Hanlon's 78th birthday and we know that she must have assisted in the discovery of the latest complication for baby Michael James.
Keep up your strength.

Mom and Dad
