Michael had a very special day.
Michael's Aunt Sarah sent him a set of rosary beads that belonged to his Great-Uncle Mick. The beads had been blessed by Pope John XXIV and Uncle Mick credited them for saving his life during his many close calls (including being one of few survivors from the sinking of the RMS Lancastria).
Meg and Thomas brought the rosary beads to the hospital to share with Michael. His very protective father made sure that the unsterile beads didn't contaminate his bassinet. Megan and Tom asked for a priest to come bless the baby and as the nurse picked up the phone, in walked Father Don and he went directly to Michael's bedside.
The nurse was shocked and said that she was just about to call him. To which, Father Don replied, "This happens sometimes. It's God's will. I know where to be sent." He talked with Meg and Tommy and gave a thoughtful blessing to Michael.
He then came back and performed a beautiful baptism for Michael with his parents at his side. Tommy made sure that his full name, Michael James Sheehan Irwin, was read. Father Don is a magnificent presence for the family and we're looking forward to his continued guidance.
Michael's doctor's reported back that his oxygen saturation levels are at that of a healthy non-HLHS baby! He is constantly impressing us with his ability to surpass expectations.
We're gearing up for his surgery on Monday. It is scheduled for 7:30 in the morning. We'll provide additional information tomorrow and again, we appreciate your support, love, and prayers.
