Happy One Week Birthday Michael!

Well, it's been 24 hours since little Mick's surgery and his monitoring indicates that he's doing well.

Today, we celebrated Michael's One Week Birthday with some great news. Our biggest concern was Michael's heart function, and, as of Meg and Tom's most recent meeting with the medical team, it looks much better.

Earlier today, Father Don celebrated a beautiful mass and included Michael in his intentions. Team Mick (still dressed in scrubs) attended. Father Don was thrilled to hear of Michael's drastic changes.

We are still camped out at the hospital and will be spending the night. Michael's next big hurdle will be when they stitch up his chest. We anticipate for this to happen on Friday. Until then, we remain optimistic and hopeful, but please continue to pray and send Michael your good thoughts. We believe it's working.

Meg and Thomas want everyone to know how grateful they are for all of your thoughts and prayers. We read every single comment aloud and are inspired by the number of people sharing in little Mick's story. Knowing how many people have read about, and been touched by, Michael's life has given Megan and Tommy much needed support in trying times. Thank you again.

Little Mick marches on, fighting the good fight.

Well it has been a week since I saw Michael, or little Mick as he is now known. I had to go to work in the UK and now another set of people here in Portsmouth follow all of the progress.
I know it has been difficult for Meg and Thomas but I am very proud of the way they have handled this tough situation. Sarah and Caitlin have been wonderful in their support. This blog is fantastic in keeping family and friends up to date. I am on the phone regularly with Thomas, Sarah, Monica and Meg and know how current the blog is.
Monica and I are very touched by the support of Betsy, Ed, all of Meg's family and friends along with everyone on the Irwin side of the family. The people who have been continually following little Mick's progress are from as far away as Ireland, England and Wales to the east and west coast of the USA.
I bet he has support from above as well with Uncle Mick telling him to "never, never, never give up"
He is certainly not "Walking alone" and I doubt if he ever will.
The hospital staff have been amazing in what they can do with one so small and our thanks go out to them.
Little Mick is the real hero here and the one we are all proud of.
You do not usually get Tigers in Ireland so he might be the first Irish Tiger.

All my love and I cannot wait to get back to the USA and New York to see him,

Grandad Irwin

Another day. Thank you God. Michael, Megan, Tommy, Caitlin, and Sarah you keep us in awe of the power of the human spirit. Your strength, faith, and humor have touched so many. There are prayer circles spanning the globe, covering every religion. My host family in China has included Michael in their daily meditations to Buddha.

Have a good day and thank you for being our lifeline to Michael. He is a miracle.

Love and hugs,
Mom

Good Morning Michael and Team, Well, I was at the Red Sox game last night and the entire time I was thinking of you all. I shared Michael's story with some friends and we all prayed silently as we rooted on the Sox. Michael is proving to be quite a strength and good luck charm. We stomped KC! I know he currently resides in NY, but I have a strange feeling he may very well turn out to be a Red Sox fan, sorry Tommy. He continues to amaze me and each day after reading the blog a smile creeps over my face. Hang in there team Mick, you're doing great!
Love,
Catie
