Our Superstar

His parents made their 6 am check-in call and Michael had another great night's sleep.

Last night, we visited him and his Grandpa, Nana, and aunt got to hold the pacifier in his mouth. He has quite the grip and we can understand why the delivering doctor needed help after Michael chomped down on his finger.

Megan lulled him to sleep, while singing You Are My Sunshine. As the night wore on, Michael threw out a wave to his Grandpa and then reached out and grabbed Meg's finger, as if to say, "Mommy, go home and rest. I'm okay." [That was our official translation, at least.]

He is just so precious and full of personality.

This morning, his mom and dad went to mass at their church, St. Ignatius Loyola, where a special prayer was read for Michael. They are resting up and we'll be in to visit the little tiger this evening.

Michael will have the first (called the Norwood) of three surgeries tomorrow morning. It will be an open heart surgery so he'll have a bandage over his chest and may be a little bruised, but other than that, he may look no different than the pre-surgery pictures. In google searching for pictures of babies with HLHS post-surgery, I keep coming up with all of these very healthy looking tikes. It's reassuring to remember that in just a little while, that will be our Michael.

We'll post again tonight, with updates. Thank you again for your love and support.

Here's his grandpa holding the rosary beads, while Michael waves goodbye:

Hi Connolly/Irwin families,
At mass today I had all of you in my heart. I prayed for your continued strength. You must be exhausted, but faith, hope and love will carry you through. You are all so lucky to have each other.
Michael continues to look fantastic. There was one picture yesterday or Friday that I saw Sean in him.
I look forward to hearing the surgery is done and Michael is on his way to a speedy recovery.
Love to all!!
Patsy

Brett and I will be praying for you all as Michael undergoes his surgery tomorrow morning. I think he's already proven he's quite the fighter so this should be a walk in the park for him:) Be sure and get lots of rest tonight, you all have a big day tomorrow.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Brett and Amanda

Dear Tommy and Megan and the entire Irwin family, especially Baby Michael:
Saw the weather report and decided to come into the office.
Swung by "The Big House" (St. Pat's) on my way here.
Like so many other Churches I'm sure, there is a candle burnin' bright for him tonight.
Hope it's comforting to know that you've got "Canisius" praying for him too!
Love and best wishes, from UBS in Rockefeller Center, by way of Main & Fillmore, in Buffalo, N.Y.
